Creating the eco home of your dreams
This is a special crafted course to learn a lot about eco building on our Island Escape-Area. It combines hands-on building experience, lectures and design exercises to help you creating your own eco building - big or small! Be inspired by a multitude of techniques and projects you will see around the Island Escape-Area, dive deeply into eco living while you are here and enjoy a supportive, joyful learning environment!
Living in an eco building, brings you closer to nature, boosts your well-being and allows you to live your ecological values. Eco buildings are designed to minimize their impact on the environment, by using natural, renewable or recycled materials, being well insulated and incorporating the principles of passive solar design.
Another important aspect is- how much space you actually need. By designing floor plans cleverly, it is possible to save a lot of effort, material and money! Practicals will illustrate these principles and deepen the learned principles. These cover hands-on construction as well as design exercises that playfully explore your own dream house, taking your own project to the next level. In case you already have some sketches, a site or ideas, please bring them along.
The Venue
Island Escape is an eco retreat-area on a tranquil and natural croatian island called Biševo. Giving people the opportunity to experience living in harmony with nature, it offers retreats, events and seminars around the themes of ecological construction, permaculture, healthy living, arts and crafts.
Being completely off-grid, it's design is based on permaculture principles: A beautiful mainhouse which serves as teaching space and kitchen, nice and cozy cottages for sleeping, a permaculture garden, compost toilets, simple showers.
The course will take place in our building area near the sea, in the cottages and in the surrounding of the Island Escape-Area.
Language
The course language is English. Do not hesitate to ask, if you do not understand anything, we can talk slowly! If you want, we can translate into German and Croatian.
Course Structure
The course will run every day from 9.00 - 13.00, with short interim breaks as required. The course lasts 6 days with 24 hours of theoretical and practical lessons.
The amount of lessons per day depends on the weather situation and arrangement between the participants. The workshops start in the middle of May up to the middle of June.
What to bring with you
Please bring colored pens, a notebook, any information you might have regarding your own eco house project, working clothes, a sun hat, sun-cream. sunglasses and a towel.
Lead Instructor
The workshops are leaded by Davor Božanić, who is the initiator of the Island Escape- project. Being passionate about eco building, he has built together with friends and volunteers, most of the structures on the area.

Additional nights are 95 € per person, for trace-people or for you, if you want to stay longer.
To secure your place in the course, please pay a deposit of 30% of the fee.
For cancellations we will deduct a handling fee of 50 € and return the remains of the deposit to you.
